Unless you’re a Star Cinema fanatic or have extremely poor taste in movies, I am pleading about to convince you not to watch Kris Aquino’s latest film, Dalaw. Let me start by saying that the entire movie looked cheaply made, based from a predictable storyline played by actors who where either too stiff or too engrossed with their role to the point of exaggeration. Sure, most of the Metro Manila Film Festival entries were made in the similar or lesser fashion but this is a different story since this is Kris Aquino. The Kris Aquino.
Where in the world could you find a former president’s daughter and now the current president’s sister starring in a horror film featuring a curse-reckoned family, a desolate ex-lover who committed suicide who turned out to be the one haunting the family, and a cataract-begotten elderly housekeeper with a third-eye. Oh, and who could forget the mud covered monster whose make up was poorly executed? This my folks is called a spoiler. 2 syllables. Spoi-ler.
No wonder the Filipinos never get over their superstitious beliefs. How many times have you been told not to go out and play because a mananagal will devour your insides or a tikbalang would kidnap you and take you to his kingdom inside a tree? If you still haven’t been told about those two, then something similar must have been constructed, like an evil violet gay dinosaur tormenting the children with his “I love you, You love me” song.
I also did a little research on what other people thought about the movie just to check if I’m being too mean. Guess what? I just confirmed it. You know how these media men and public relation people hype up the movie with their TV commercials showing people how be-dazzled they were with the story, how spectacular the actors were, and other stuff like that. DON’T YOU BELIEVE THEM.
The movie still gave me a thrill. I still had to occasionally squint my eyes a little or gobble up on my popcorn once the scary music starts so as not to see the whole thing – even if the scene wasn’t really that scary. There were even times that I had to control my giggles when Kris had to belt out her monotonous scream and put on her game face which looked like this every time.

Aside from those mentioned above, the movie was okay, not good, but it’s still looked like the less worse choice compared to the others.
And no, we won’t see Kris like this.
Shake, Rattle, and Roll the nth, you’re next.

i hate kris aquino and her movies. she is always very bland, generic, and monotonous. i don't think this movie is an exception. id rather watch RPG metanoia. hihihi. thanks for the heads up though, RJ! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd rather watch her at SNN or the Buzz. Well, I think dalaw was better compared to her previous movies. :)
ReplyDeletei haven't watched any films this holiday season. but when the first time i saw the poster for this movie i laughed. red poster, the title and kris aquino.
ReplyDeletesadly, sabi mo nga, i felt they made this film for the sake of making a film, having something to present during MMFF, needing some extra source of income. sabagay madami nga naman syang nagastos last year. :)
I think i don't need to watch the movie in order to know how much it sucks. They say this is that kind of film which you can judge by its trailer, and just seeing Kris's trying-hard face scream at the camera already makes you wanna pass on this one.
ReplyDeleteI do respect your opinions about the movie. However, i firmly believe that there is nothing wrong with superstitious beliefs. There is no need for filipinos to "get over" their superstitious beliefs. These beliefs make our culture alive despite the rampant urbanization in the country.
ReplyDeleteI agree that these superstitious beliefs do indeed play a big part in shaping our culture but what's dangerous about them is that when people become limited by these beliefs to the point they become ignorant of facts. That's what I'm trying to say :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of bad reviews about this movie and I'm not planning to watch it since I never liked Kris Aquino. I think she's a good host, but she's definitely not for acting.
ReplyDeleteWhat can you say about the cinematography?
ReplyDelete@anonymous - it was better compared to her previous movies. There was a part that it looked like Hotel 626.lol
ReplyDeleteSadly(or not), this kind of movie is one of those our countrymen enjoy. I have seen Agimat at Enteng Kabisote and it didn't exceed any of my expectations except for the fact that we didn't get a seat because there too many people watching the movie. These movies may be cheap but they are what most Filipinos enjoy. I know Kris Aquino is over-acting. Not just in the movie but I think on a day to day basis.. (haha)... going back... At least they our Filipino made and are supported by many as our culture. :)
ReplyDeletefast-paced movie. Feng Shui and Sukob were a lot better than this movie. at tama ka on your first image haha : D
ReplyDeletei dont even need to see the trailer to know how much it sucks. Kris Aquino, please just keep on hosting na lang?lol
ReplyDeleteNatawa ko sa picture ni Kris Aquino! Que Horror! I've yet to watch the MMFF films but Dalaw is certainly not on my list. :) Thanks for sharing your review.
ReplyDeleteWV: inter. Parang bisaya ng ENTER, hehe. Happy New Year!
I heard even His Excellency himself got confused with the storyline. Good thing I'm not really a fan of Film Fest unless I am looking for something to keep my boredom reach rock bottom. But having said that, I still think that there are still some movies worth watching. Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteYou got a nice site by the way, let me follow you from now on. :)
