Hey! My Kitten's Russian!

Kittens for adoption. That was the status message of my friend Camille last week.  I immediately sent her a PM about it and it turned out that she had a friend who was giving away puspin kittens. Since I wanted one for myself too, I asked for the contact number of her friend. After having exchanged some text messages, we agreed to meet up at MOA yesterday.

As agreed upon, I was there by four.

With blonde hair? After a few minutes, I saw a Caucasian lady with a boy who was carrying a pet carrier waiting near the fountain. I was really surprised because and all along I thought I was exchanging messages with a Filipino! Turns out they’re both Russians who were really fond of puspin cats. She told me some details and whatnots about my new kitten. She was really pleasant to talk to and it seemed like she really loved this new pet of mine.

By the way, “puspin” stands for “pusang pinoy” or what we call “pusang kalye”. It’s not really one of those fancy cats that we see in cat shows. But then again, I realized that even though they’re very common here in the Philippines they shouldn't be taken for granted and instead must be taken cared of just the same, similar to those with fancy pedigree.

I named her Arie after one of my favorite inspirational singers, India Arie. As soon as I let her out of the paperbag I stuffed her into, she immediately made the demarcation in my bed, lying in one of the corners. By night, I tried feeding her with rice and leftover lumpiang shanghai  but she didn't seem to be too interested with it. I have yet to buy her the Whiskas kitten food that her past Russian owner fed her.

She really likes to be touched and would come up to me and cuddle most of the time. Although I am quite annoyed when she keeps on stepping  on my keyboard whenever I’m typing something or scratching me during playtime. But still, she’s a cutiepatootie, right?

On the other hand, Hazel, my multigravid hamster,  was quietly feeding her litter of four in their cage. My baby hammies are starting to eat, walk, and grow some fur.  I just hope Arie won’t find a way to open the cage and turn it into a massacre site though.
