In college, raw scores are converted to their percentage equivalent. The highest percentage you can get is a hundred percent and the lowest you could possibly get is 65%. The passing score is 75%, anything lower than that means that you failed. Therefore, computing for the percentage grade is very essential especially if you're aiming for honors.
The transmutation table is a matrix of raw scores with their corresponding percentage score based on the total number of items, it also serves as a guide for professors to get our raw score's percentage equivalent. Although sometimes, profs may use different ways of computing the percentage aside from the transmutation table given to them.
Here's one of the formulas my professor shared with us which I find really reliable:
Raw Score - the score you got, your actual score
Total no. of points - total number of items in an exam
Base score - the passing percentage. ex. Base 65% means that you should get a score of 65% of the total number of items just to get a passing grade.
Percentage - the percentage equivalent of your raw score
Let's say for example I got 67/100 in my long exam. The base score is 65%. So...
Some professors may require you to round up your percent score. So if you got 78.55, i may round up my score to the nearest whole number which is 79. But if for example the decimal I got was below 0.5, say for example my grade is 78.45, I may not round up my score, thus my percent score will be 78%.

astig . salamat sir dito.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sample computation of raw scores to percentage. Is there any transmutation table for other raw stores with corresponding equivalent already listed?
Deletegaling! finally hindi n ko gagawa ng transmu table for vlookup... maraming salamat!
ReplyDeletewelcome! =) kaso di 100% accurate yan ah. it may not apply to all.
ReplyDeletei like your post but i tried it on items less than 100. but it doesnt give the right answer. so what's the formula if hndi over 100 yung exam?
ReplyDelete@ anon - as i;ve said, it may not be 100 percent accurate :)
ReplyDeleteMas tama po cguro kung ganito Raw score divided by Total score times 35 plus 65... Accurate po to sa base 65... :)
ReplyDeletetry base 50..
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteTransmutation tables. If I get an exam score of zero then, using your formula, I would be given 35%.
If I get 67/100 in an exam, I would expect my score/final grade to be 67%. I would not expect to be given an extra 12% based on a formula which is made up to increase grades with no educational justification.
In other countries this is called falsifying grades, cooking the numbers, cheating, lying etc. A lecturer/teacher would be fired for doing this. It's unprofessional.
If you type 'transmutation tables school grades' into Google you will find most of the websites are from the Philippines.
The Philippines government have also ceased the use of these cheat tables, they now just give 65% as the lowest possible score even if a student has zero as their raw score.
What are your thoughts?
This formula may only be accurate if the score they got is a passing one. It cant be used if they get 50% and below.
ReplyDeleteI am not really familiar with the reason on the 12% addition to the grades but you also have a point that it has justification. Probably the reason for this is that the teacher would like to limit the range of scores. It might be very difficult for them if they include 1-100 in their percentage grading. :)
helpful!! thanks! been trying to find this for ages!
ReplyDeleteTransmuted grade=((RawScore/TotalScore)*50)+50
ReplyDeletethis is only applicable if the passing grade( or base score) is 50%
DeleteOmg RJ. Di ko akalaing sa iyo ko pa ito makikita. :) Haha. Salamat!!
ReplyDeletestudent's score/total score times 50 + 50....that's it
ReplyDeleteuse the formula: x+(base score)(number of items)y = 75
ReplyDeleteand
x+(number of items)y = 100
then use elimination/substituion methos to find the values of x and y.
then apply to the equation:
x+y*grade/no of items = %grade or transmuted grade
what does x and y stand for?
DeleteSCORE OF 0 = 35
ReplyDeleteMAYBE IT WILL BE LIKE:
(RAW/TOTAL)*35+65=PERCENTAGE
thank u for this.,, this information will be a great help to me.,, this will save me from thinking too much.,,
ReplyDeletegod speed.,,
Not Accurate. Answer should be limit on the basescore but formula gives an answer below the basescore.
ReplyDeletethank you for this:Transmuted grade=((RawScore/TotalScore)*50)+50
ReplyDelete(raw score/total number of points) * (100-base score)+base score
ReplyDeletethis is accurate
RJ thanks for this! Hahaha. :)
ReplyDeleteNOT ACCURATE. I computed a score, 9/20 which has a base score of 82 but I didn't get the right answer. I got 50. :
ReplyDeletemy other way of finding the grade from the raw score
ReplyDeletegrade = [ (your raw score - lowest score) x (highest grade - lowest grade) / (highest score - lowest score) ] + lowest grade
