Globe currently has their own Fair Use Policy. But I suggest that they have a Fair Service Policy as well. Or perhaps, a Fair Advertisement Policy would be more apt.
I was surfing the other day while downloading the Good Times with Mo podcast series (I’m still downloading the 3rd episode as of this moment), also partly doing some project proposals while I received a message from 8888 - the number you’ll love and hate; love when it says that you can now use your Supersurf 50 and hate when it says the promo expired. But more than that, you’d hate it more if it doesn’t reply no matter how much you try to spam the system by sending SUPERSURF50 countless of times.
Back to the story. So there I was still waiting for my download to finish while I suddenly received a message that went like:
Globe Advisory: Your account has reached 1GB in usage today. Subject to Globe Fair Use Policy, your internet service has been temporarily deactivated and will resume tomorrow. This promo is intended for moderate use. For heavy browsing, please upgrade to our Tattoo Postpaid plans. Thank you.
And I thought I received an earlier message that went like this:
U r now registered to SUPERSURF50. Enjoy unlimited internet surfing for 1 day using ur Globe Tattoo Mobile or Globe Tattoo Broadband USB. Shd maintain P5 to continue using the svc. Phone GPRS/MMS not configured yet? Txt GO to 2951 for FREE. Save all settings u will rcv. To check ur status, txt SUPERSURF STATUS to 8888 for FREE. Promo til 8/31/10. DTINCR 2331. Series of 2010.
Unlimited surfing my a*s. So I googled up on the “Fair Use Policy” and I found out that there was a limit of 1Gig of peak volume capacity. As such, it was stated that the promo is basically for chatting, surfing, and sending emails, and totally not for downloading, playing videos, and sharing software. Okay, so whatever happened to the unlimited surfing? Again, I advocate that they come up with a Fair Advertisement Policy.
The next day I tried to register again by sending SUPERSURF50 to 8888 and got this message instead of the usual response:
You are currently subscribed to a SuperSurf service. Pls wait for ur subscription to expire prior to registering again.
Thinking that I was still registered, I surfed for about 2 hours or so only to realize that the time was already way past the should-be expiration. I texted SUPERSURF STATUS to check the promo and received this message:
Sorry, you are not registered to Globe Tattoo SUPERSURF. For 1day surfing, txt SUPERSURF50 to 8888, P50. For 5days, txt SUPERSURF220 to 8888, P220. Shld maintain P5 to use the svc. For help, txt SUPERSURF HELP to 8888 for FREE.
Checked my balance to find that I wasted 40 friggin’ pesos for the two hour surfing.
Oh crap.
madaya ang globe, that's a fact. and sometimes their signal is too uber sloooww. and yeah, I can relate to this. same wonderful effin experience as yours. their Unlimited blah-blah is Limited. they're foolin people.

ReplyDeleteBakit pati sa Wymax 3G ko apektado din? And paying for what - P995 a month? when Globe capped my bandwidth for 25kbp/s from 1mbps, ang lumalabas na value nya a month in fact is - P255.00!
ReplyDeleteyou have to be happy when you got 1g.. mine stopped at 800mb
ReplyDeleteGLOBE Advisory: Ur data subscription for today has reached 800mb. Ur remaining browsing hours will resume tomorrow subject to promo validity. U may opt to forfeit ur remaining subscription to browse for P5/15 or register to other promos. To unsubscribe text SUPERSURF STOP or POWERSURF STOP to 8888. This promo is guided by Globe Fair Use Policy.
when they say unlimited they don't really mean unlimited don't they? are we supposed to complain to the advertising board? remember the commercial "exaggeration!" they can't really have false advertising.
Me, i'm okay with bandwidth capping.. but proactive bandwidth throttling for torrents is just plain ridiculous. Smart doesn't do the same. I've tried downloading the same torrent using both Smart and Globe USB Dongle. With Smart, i'm getting 90Kbps on the average.. with Globe, i get maximum of 2kbps.
ReplyDeleteSmart does not have bandwidth capping i suppose.
It doesn't take a genius to decide which USB Stick to choose..:-)
please sign and spread the word, this is for all of us...
