Is the Black Widow. In the foliage it thrives, creeping along the precisely weaved strings she herself spun. Out of this, she finds comfort in the sanctuary that demarcates her space from all others.
The web, aside from a sanctuary, is a trap that disallows her to predate. She, almost motionlessly, clings at one part of the web until some ill-fated creature falls unto it and becomes tangled. Patiently, she waits until a struggling creature meets their untimely demise.
Like in most traps, the Black Widow has no control on who or what falls unto the web. To find contentment in the prey that one’s web presented is one inevitable fate the Black Widow has resigned to. For such sad creature, a wish for a specific prey is one demonstration of a spider’s sadistic tendencies.
Vibrations –are the signals made by a flailing creature that hopes for an escape from the spider’s lair. A signal that titillates the senses of a gustatory deprived Black Widow. She moves with such gracefully coordinated movements along the vastness of her webs towards her prey in heightened anticipation for a day’s feed. Although most of the time, the expectations are dissipated as she finds out that only some useless entity had been stuck. For every miniscule vibration, she has to race to it before the creature figures its way out. Tough life, the Black Widow would always complain about.
But what happens if the trap is much too feeble to keep the prey entangled?
No one understands this better than Anne Lonesome, who pictures herself as the dream girl who never happened to belong to anyone. Like a miserable Black Widow, she resigns herself into passive waiting for some victim to get trapped in her web. And when she finally does, she finds herself defeated by time itself as the prey escapes sooner than she arrived. Every vibration for her turns into another a source of another disappointment up to the point that she doesn’t even bother to chase the vibrations.
A rather shallow dilemma to some, yes, but when everyone easily comes and goes, the triviality of the problem overrides all definition of superficiality.
Such is the life of the pitiful Black Widow and her frail trap.
Anne Lonesome – a semi-fictional character with an amazing personality to boot. Thank you for sharing and trusting me with your story this morning. This must be nature’s way of telling you not to hit with people from the lower levels .Haha!

ReplyDelete@anonymous - of course it could've been. There are always better ways to tell a story but I still chose to tell it my way. Nevertheless, there's always room for improvements. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

This is the first time I've read this. Such a poignant piece from the Black Widow's perspective. You always see things deeply and that's why I trust you with matters of the heart.
