2008 BoyAcads Men and Women of Substance

Character. Substance. Depth.

These are the words that quickly zaps my mind when I hear these people's names. They are the people which I believe influence not only a life or two but also continue to inspire future generations in more ways than one. These are the people who showcase depth in their sensible ways, and meaning in every action. Ladies and gentlemen without futher adue may I present to you the 2008 BoyAcads men and women of substance!

Gov. Ed "Amog Ed" Panlilio
"Leading Pampanga to good governance..."

Governor of Pampanga who had a break from priesthood to run for the last elections. As a governor, he brought changes in our province especially in our political system. He also fearlessly exposed the anomalies such as the bribery issue last year. Amidst the controversies and political allegations, he still stands firm as the leader of rennaisance Pampanga.

Prof.Irma Bustamante, PhD
"Embodiment of a True Filipina"

One thing I admire most with Dra.Irma is her non- judgemental way of dealing with people, rich or poor, young and old, she never failed to show her sincerity, thus she always fit in the picture of society. She is also one accomplished woman, one of the few people who have a doctorate degree in Nursing here in the Philippines. She also drafter her own Nursing theory about Abuse and Women exploitation because she believed that our culture is tolerant of abuse and women are believed to be inferior to men. As her advocacy, she contunues to raise consicousness to women empowerment by conducting talks in various sectors of our community.

Pokwang
"So more than that..."

Amid the colorful cosutmes and the distracting (if not diturbing) headgeas she normally sports on set of Wowowee (a Filipino TV Show),despite of the foolish smiles she displays, and regardless of the jokes she cracks, I believe Pokwang is so much more than that. She has substance, probably caused by the adverse life story she has. I saw that side when Joey de Leon of Eat Bulaga! (a rival TV show) featured on a song a line that goes like "Si pokwang mukang asawang...". Initially, Pokwang kept her cool until she learned about her child getting affected from this supposed joke.

"Untarnished and Unblemished"

One of the microminifew (if there is even such a word) politicians in which I have confidence in. Although she frequently have sudden mood outbreaks, I admire her for her force and vigor in confronting issues. Say,I wouldn't mind if she runs for presidency at 2010. A perfectly untarnished and completely unblemished image. Just what the Philippines need nowadays. Need I say more?

Rogelio Alegrid
"Us, learning without noticing..."

He is one of my Highschool teachers in O.B.Montessori Center and I was surprised that I still know little about him. I luckily found his blog, http://heywarp.multiply.com/journal which features education and literary works. His depth in method of teaching is what struck me the most, when I was his student, I thought his funny way of teaching was just power tripping because we wold normally have a laugh or two in his class. But one thing I learned from his blog is that some of the simple things that we don't usually find meaning in is that in his method of teaching actually help us withouht us noticing it. For example, Sir Alegrid is known for asking a lot of questions during recitation that you will never fail to feel na "pinagtitripan ka lang" but actually, that method helps us organize our thoughts. He is sort of helping us get the correct answer by his questions that lead us to it. It was just now that I apprieciated it. He moves in innocent ways, filled with depth and substance.

Prof.Robert Ampil,PhD
"A fruit of perseverance"

In these times where education plays a vital role in sucess,I do believe that it is time to pay tribute to our beloved educatiors who continue to inspire young people like me. In more ways than one, Prof.Robert Ampil, obtained a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Philippine Normal University, our Filipino professor who never failed to amuse us with remarkable substance and character. In just one semester of knowing him, he opened our eyes in the current political setbacks and moral issues. He also shared with us anecdotes of his humble begginings, working at an early age to support his schooling, his conscious effort to oust our president (not his!) and his pagtatago sa imburnal when he joined in a rally somewhere but look at him now! Soaring the skies with a doctorate degree and continues to share knowledge with us. Truly a person of perseverance and firm stand.
