U-Trip: University Belt/U-Belt

The University Belt (U-Belt) is a place in Manila where there is a high concentration or a cluster of colleges and universities. Each of the colleges and universities found here are at a short walking distance of each other.

The U-Belt is divided into three clusters: San Miguel district, Taft Ave. and the historic walled city of Intramuros. Despite being divided into different clusters, all are found within no more than four miles (six kilometers), in an irregular crescent string shape, across the seven districts of Manila.

San Miguel District

It is the heart of the U-Belt which also includes nearby Sampaloc, Quiapo and Santa Cruz. Generally, it includes the southern end of España Boulevard, Nicanor Reyes St. (formerly Morayta St.), the eastern end of Claro M. Recto Avenue (formerly Azcarraga), Legarda Avenue, Mendiola Street and the different side streets.

**The University Belt is near the Malacañang Palace. As a result, protesters and demonstrators would often find their way passing by the colleges and universities in the district on their way to Mendiola Street and the Chino Roces Bridge, a frequent venue of rallies.
